I have been blogging for two years now. And there are some points of it that I just hated when I first started. And the main one was writing a blog post. How could it be that I am a blogger? That’s what we do is write. But I hate it? Yes, at least in the beginning I did. Now as a seasoned blogger I know I was making mistake after mistake, which made writing a blog post so hard. So, I can breeze you past the “difficult” task of writing a blog post. Let’s get into it. ’10 Blogging Mistakes To Avoid When Writing a Blog Post.’

1. Not Planning

When you are writing a post you maybe in two transitions.

“I have egg brain. I don’t know what to write.”

or

“Omg, I want to write about this. That. This.That. That and this.”

Stop the madness.

No worries.

All you have to do is take out a clean piece of paper and pen and write down some important stuff.

I like to think of this phase as a very important one that should not be overlooked. If you want to make sure people are actually going to come across your blog post that you worked so hard on. Make sure you do it right the first time.

Keep reading to see how to do it right.

Phase One-

Brainstorm ideas that you want to blog about. If you are a lifestyle blogger which really can talk about everything under the sun. You may want to focus on one category a week. Like write about mom hacks one week. So once you have the topic in mind that you want we can narrow things down to get more specific and go on to Phase Two.

Phase Two-

Now that you have an idea what you want to talk about. Write all that down. Phase Two is doing research to see how popular your post is. You can do this on any of these platforms.

  • Pinterest
  • Semrush
  • Google Trends
SEMrush

The easiest is going to Pinterest and typing in your topic. You will then see all the pins that best match with that. The ones at the top are the most popular. Focus on them. Take notes. Do not copy just take notes as what they have done to make their pin a top pin.

2. Not adding SEO

If you have not heard the term SEO before, it is search engine optimization. Fancy wording for saying how well you add keywords into your post that are popular to people online. 4. Writing Short Length Posts

Okay, I still have to work on this. I mean really how is it humanely possible to shove out a perfect 1200 or more words in one post. Each Time!! And tweaking so much.

But most of the time it has to be atleast 700 words. This will make Google happy. When Google is happy it likes to reward you in moving up slowly and surely to the first page of search results.

5. Not Downloading Major Plugins

When writing your blog post it is good practice to add related content on YOUR PAGE to the post you are writing.

For example, If you are writing a new post about bathroom decor, you would want to add a link in there about a past post you had about organizing the bathroom.

See its content in the same category. Link that.

Your readers will find it interesting and click on that page. That’s double traffic.

7. Not adding affiliate links

If you have signed up for affiliates as you should right away. DO IT NOW.

I came across a blogger who posts unexpectedly went viral. Upon my surprise, she did not have any affiliate links. So that means all of the thousands of traffic she was getting, went unseen. This is a huge blogging mistake you need to avoid.

She was missing out on potential money. Because it was nothing for her to get out of it. No sales. No commission. Just views. That’s good if you have enough to make it to major ad networks like Mediavine (which you need 25k sessions or 100k page views.)

Tip: Any of your older posts go through them and update them with your new affiliate links.

8. Comment Corners

Okay, now I did not make this blogging mistake. But I have came across some people posts. They write an intriguing post. They gave me some helpful information. Then they don’t have a comment box, for me to share appreciation. Bummer.

9. Not Promoting

If you are going to write content. You can do that. You can do everything I said to do in this post. But if you are not promoting this work on the right platforms. You might as well not complete it. You know that commercial that says would you accept a halfway job. And it has a dog with half of his dog hair groomed.

That’s your blog. Writing the blog is half of it. Now you have to share it. Promote it.
