How To Manage Being a Work at Home Parent During Quarantine
If you are wondering how to find the balance for being a work at home parent during the quarantine 2020, you are in the right place. My heart goes out to each parent trying to manage during these unstable times.
I am a mother of three elementary school children. I have been working for myself before the quarantine 2020, so I would like to share with you some hacks and tips that have been so helpful to my family and I.
I’m also going to share my new challenges and struggles of being a stay at home parent/mom since school closings: COVID-19 Quarantine 2020.
The Struggle Is Real…
Oh how I miss the days where I could drop my kids off to school and get my morning coffee and start my day as working from myself. It took me some time, to actually find the balance in that.
However, now that schools have closed worldwide, families are forced to transition their once normal routine to something so foreign. When my kids was in school I juggled the at home duties like laundry, dishes, making dinner, grocery store runs. And I also had to find time in for my work.

And I really felt overwhelmed then when I had things to do around the house and then only having about two hours to focus on my work. Now, that my three kids are home that overwhelmed feeling just has my mind all over the place.
So, you get it? I’m in the same boat as you. We are truly all in this together.

How To Find Balance When Working From Home With Kids
No matter what the situation is working from home is not a walk in the park. Of course you get the perks like working in your pjs. Or catching up on your latest tv show while working.
But when you add kids to the mix.
It is a challenge.
Then sprinkle that you are in the middle of a worldwide crisis and you have to teach your kids. Oh and that you can’t go anywhere.
Umm yes, that is enough to make anyone lose their sh$#. Kiddos included. So, I gathered some true proven things that help me and other parents working from home.
1. Wake Up Early
I am not a fan at all of waking up early. Especially, after staying up late doing parent stuff that I can’t do when they are up: like folding clothes or watching that new Lifetime movie I have tried watching for the past two weeks. But honey let me tell you when you get up early. The house is quiet. You have time to have you time and do what you need to do to prepare yourself for the day.
I tend to take this time to shower, get myself together and start breakfast. That way when my kids wake up, they have my attention, I’m not running around doing all that while my kids are saying “I’m bored only at 10am!!”
2. Calendar
Use a calendar to put down all of your to dos for the week. I like to look at the week to week calendar vs the monthly calendar. This is because I am not too overly overwhelmed with future tasks that I see needs to be done.
Use the calendar to write down your kids assignments that is due.
3. Time Blocking
Okay, now I have heard how people would rave about time blocking and I ignored it. I guess I had to really go through the motions of doing things my own way to see I really would have benefited from time blocking.
Time blocking is when you have something to do and you only do that thing for the amount of time that you say. But you have to stick to it. I do this now with the kids and working from home.
I do not set the times for like 10am to 11am homeschooling and so on. This is because you all could just be having a late day or it will be past the time you said.
Instead, I say 1 hour for homeschooling.Than 1 hour for chores. 1 hour for work from home and so on.
4. Naps
Naps or quiet time for your kiddos. Let them take a nap no later than 2pm. This is so they will not stay up late. The ideal naptime is 12:30 to 3:00 pm.
If your kids have stopped taking naps, you should still require quiet time in their rooms in which to mimic naptime. During this time you can unwind or just catch up.
5. Listen To Your Body
I think as parents, especially mothers we go overboard in superhero mood all day everyday. And that my dear will have some ugly back lash if we don’t take breaks in between times of saving the day. Your body can and will become sluggish and fatigue when you are not giving your body time to recharge. So, if you are feeling tired. Take that nap with your kids. Yes, you may have so much that need to be done now. But nothing can be done if you are not taking care of yourself.
As my mother always have said “you can’t take care of someone else, if you can’t take care of yourself.”
