Pilgrim Themed Lesson Plans – Grade Pre-K -5

Welcome to my site. My name is Starr and I am a mother of three elementary school kids. We are now like most families who homeschool in the comfort of our homes. However, I choose to teach my children hands-on instead of online teaching from their schools.

A lot more parents that can do this are choosing this option. Your kids will be more interactive and actually absorb more information instead of the whole lesson being such a bore.

If you want to look into withdrawing your child from their local public schools, do the following:

  • Call your home board of education and ask to speak with someone in student services. This is who will handle the withdrawal of your child.
  • Ask to get a copy of the curriculum for the state you live in for your child’s grade
  • Plan your own activities and lessons plans for the months of schooling

I have decided to share my home school journey with other homeschooling moms.

That means tips and easy steps.

Week Two: Pilgrim Theme

Each week I set a different theme for my kids. I have a kindergartner, second-grader, and fourth grader.

If you have multiple kids. A quick tip is to make the same theme for all of them. However, the individual work you give them work for their grade.

For example This week’s Pilgrim week. My kindergartner will do things like the color the Pilgrim the clothes the correct colors. Things like that.

My older children will be writing a letter at the end of the week to a Pilgrim or writing a letter as a Pilgrim.

Here is our homeschool schedule/routine.

Literacy

If your child is in grades 1-5 makeup vocabulary words that match your theme.

Children Pre-K and K can be introduced to short vocab words this week. Short vocab words no more than five letters.

If you find short vocab words in relation to your theme even better. Pre-K and K students should trace these words and write them out during the week.

Activities For Theme 2: Pilgrims

Activities to match your theme of the week or month is a great way to get kids acting out what they are learning about their theme.

When your child is doing an activity this is not just fun it’s great for social interaction as they are learning how to work with others and ask for help when needed.

This is also a great way for them to work on their fine motor skills, which is activities that your child will do that involves using their hands to manipulate different activities and exercises.
