10 Tips for Organizing Family Schedule
1. Identify Your Family’s Priorities
Before creating a schedule, take time to determine what matters most.
Consider work hours, school schedules, extracurricular activities, meal times, and family bonding moments.
Prioritizing these elements will help you structure your day effectively.
2. Use a Family Calendar
A family calendar, whether digital or physical, is essential for staying organized. Some great options include:
- Google Calendar (syncs across devices for easy access)
- Cozi Family Organizer (a great app for managing family tasks)
- A wall-mounted whiteboard or planner (visible to all family members)
How to Use the Calendar:
- Assign each family member a color for easy tracking.
- Include recurring events (school, work, meal prep, bedtime routines).
- Set reminders for appointments, bills, and special activities.
I LOVE new planners, and I believe I have tried all of them digital and paper planners.
For me, I love to keep 3 copies of a calendar:
-Google Calendar- Which can easily sync across all devices for your family so they will not forget. Plus, I love the Google Notes section. It is so helpful for busy moms that need to remember something.
-Paper Planner- I love finding planners from Etsy or planners from other creative women.
-Copy the Planner Paper onto your family’s command center.
This way you have a Google Calendar for digital use, copy those same dates to your paper planner.
*That is just me. If you want more of a simple approach, grab a cute and simple planner to your liking and schedule your family’s to do list.
3. Establish a Morning and Evening Routine
Starting and ending the day on a structured note helps reduce chaos. Here’s a simple routine structure:
Morning Routine:
- Wake up at a consistent time
- Eat breakfast together (if possible)
- Prepare for the day (school, work, errands)
- Quick cleanup (making beds, tidying up)
Evening Routine:
- Dinner as a family
- Homework or reading time
- Evening chores
- Wind-down activities (limit screen time, encourage quiet hobbies)
- Bedtime at a consistent hour
