1. “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.”

What anyone can take from this Kobe Bryant quote is to be an inspiration to someone. Light your own path so someone else can be awe and know that this too is possible.

For children: If your classmate or teammate sees that you are still working hard. They see that you may have stumbled, but you got right back up and tried again. Even if you fail at the second attempt. Them seeing you try will inspire them to do the same.

2. “If you’re afraid to fail, then you’re probably going to fail.”

This is a mindset thing. Speak aspirations to yourself. If you tell yourself you will fail. You will probably fall victim to that thought. Take this quote to let your children know to keep positive thoughts in their minds. This is for parents to also praise your children. Be their number one supporter.

3. “I’ll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it’s sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot.”

Letting your children know doing whatever to win a game. I would summarize the quote to children to let them know do what you need to do to make sure you come out on top. Whether it is studying more, asking for extra practice time, going to bed earlier. Anything in those terms to excel and conquer that goal.

4. “I don’t want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be Kobe Bryant.”

Michael Jordan is great, right? A legend. When you hear Kobe Bryant’s name…what do you feel? A legend. They both are legendary. Kobe made a lane for himself. He didn’t want to set his standards Michael Jordan high. He wanted to set them, Kobe Bryant, high and be his own inspiration. For children, this could be don’t be envious of the classmate that seems to not do any wrong. Make your own lane. Make your own goals. Because everyone’s goals are different, unique and set for themselves. You can be great too. In your own time, you will accomplish all of your goals and dreams, if you focus in on you.

5. “As I sit here now, when I take off my shoe and I look down at my scar, I see the beauty in it. I see all the hard work, all the sacrifices. I see the journey that it took to get back to this point of being healthy. And I see the beauty in that struggle. That’s what makes it beautiful.”

When Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles, everyone thought he would not be able to bounce back. His game after surgery ,he came out on the game with scoring 34 points. So yes, everyone has battles to overcome. Yes, everyone has a past. Grow from it. Explain to your child if she or he failed at something they were passionate about. Keep moving. Don’t look back. And if you do it should only be to learn from it.

No matter if you are fearful about something. You have to still keep moving past and through the struggles to finish the job.

7. “There’s a choice that we have to make as people, as individuals. If you want to be great at something, there’s a choice you have to make. We all can be masters at our craft, but you have to make a choice. What I mean by that is, there are inherent sacrifices that come along with that. Family time, hanging out with friends, being a great friend, being a great son, nephew, whatever the case may be. There are sacrifices that come along with making that decision.”

If you want to do great. Make the choice that you want to be great. And make all the steps to achieve that goal.

8.I’m reflective only in the sense that I learn to move forward. I reflect with a purpose.

Being reflective is looking back at your past good and bad. Don’t look back at the past to wallow in the bad things. Look back at it to grow from it.

9.Everything negative – pressure, challenges – is all an opportunity for me to rise.

Take any negativity that is thrown your way as building blocks to your success to give over those challenges.

Continue to be you. People envy people that they are threatened by.

11. We can always kind of be average and do what’s normal. I’m not in this to do what’s normal.

In a basket full of oranges, be an apple. You don’t have to be like everyone else. Do what makes you happy. If not now you will be loved for your uniqueness and different than being like all the others. Your uniqueness makes you-you.

12. It’s the one thing you can control. You are responsible for how people remember you—or don’t. So don’t take it lightly.
