11 short and simple nail designs for valentines day
Valentine’s Day is almost here, and I’ve got some great nail designs that are perfect for the occasion. These simple nail designs for valentines day are cute and easy to recreate.
As a licensed cosmetologist doing nails is an extension of the services that I have provided. These are the most requested nail designs from my clients.
Short and Simple Nail Designs for Valentine’s Day
1. Red nails
The first nail design is simple, red nails. This is a classic look that takes only a couple of minutes to do. You can add some extra touches like gold shimmer or white stars for more flair if you wish, but this will show you how easy it is to do your own nails!
- Matte finish
- French tip
- Just plain red
2. Bright pink
This is one of the most popular nail designs on the market. It looks great with a black dress, making you look super chic and bold. It also works in spring and summer when you’re looking for a bright color to keep you cool. This particular design is great if you’re young or old, shy or boldโit’s just right for everyone!
3. Silver Roses
To get this look, paint your nails with a glitter polish that has silver in it. Then use a fine brush to paint the roses on your nails with the same glitter polish. Once you finish, seal it all with a thin layer of clear polish.
4. French tips with hearts
- French tips are a classic look, and they’re super easy to do. If you don’t know how to do French tips, it’s as simple as painting your nails white and then dipping the nail into red paint so that there are some red showings on the tip of each nail.
- You can create hearts with your fingers using a toothpick or dotting tool. Once they’re dry, add a clear top coat to keep them from smudging and yellowing over time.
5. Black and white stripes
- If you’re aiming for a classic look, black and white stripes are a perfect choice.
- To create the stripes, use a toothpick or dotting tool to apply a thin layer of black polish onto your nails. Then go back with white polish and carefully draw in the lines between them. If you want to add an extra touch of flair, try using a thin brush instead of an applicator tool.

6. Rose gold hearts
What you’ll need:
- Nail polish remover
- Cotton balls or pads
- Nail art pen in a heart shape (or any shape you want)
- A rose gold nail polish, like this one from Sally Hansen’s Good.Kind.Pure Collection
7. Red + white stripes
Step 1: Paint your nails red and white stripes.
Step 2: Use a matte top coat to make sure that the stripes don’t look too glossy.
Step 3: Use a thin nail art brush, like this one to paint parallel red and white stripes onto each nail.
Step 4: Create a heart detail by using a dotting tool in black polish and drawing dots along the outer edge of each stripe pattern.
8. Glossy black hearts (acrylic)
You will need:
- Clear base coat (optional)
- Black nail polish
- Sponge to create a heart shape
- Top coat for shine (optional)
How to do it:
1. Apply the clear base coat, then paint your nails black.
2. Using a sponge that is covered in water, create a heart shape on each of your nails, then dry them with a paper towel or cloth until they’re no longer wet but still damp enough for the next step to work well.
3. Use another piece of cloth or paper towel as an applicator and apply a topcoat over the heart design you created using your sponge and water mixture.”
9. Iridescent glitter + matte black base (acrylic)
- Apply a matte black nail polish.
- Add some iridescent glitter.
- Use a top coat to seal it in.
10. Long and short nails in black with red on the tips (natural)
- Black matte with red gems (natural)
- Black and white stripes
- Rose gold hearts
- Red + white stripes
- Black and red
- Black and gold
- Silver roses (aka my favorite!) or if you’re feeling extra fancy, try french tips with hearts on the ring finger! This can also be done in black for a more casual vibe. If you really want to go all out, try using bright pink polish instead of red or rose gold!
11. Black matte with red gems (natural)
The first step is to shape your nails by using a nail file. Nails can be slightly curved or straight, depending on the length and thickness of your finger. Apply a base coat to protect your nails from staining and make sure that the color stays put. The second step is to apply a top coat to seal in the design, prevent chipping, and make it last longer than usual (up 10 days). Finally, use a dotting tool or toothpick to create hearts on each nail as shown above.
